Privacy Policy
Effective October 20, 2026
The short version: Showpage has no account, no ads, no analytics and no tracking. What you show, movie and search stays on your device. We don't collect your data, so we have nothing to sell or share.
This policy covers the Showpage app for iPhone, iPad and Mac ("Showpage", "the app"), made by Brian McCall ("we", "us").
What stays on your device
Showpage saves a few things so the app works the way you expect. They are stored on your device (and, if iCloud sync is on, in your own iCloud), in the app's own storage:
- My Shows: the shows you track, the episodes you've marked watched (and when), and each show's episode list from TVmaze, so Up Next, Upcoming and Tonight work offline.
- My Movies: the movies on your Watchlist and the ones you've marked watched (with the dates), plus each movie's release dates from Trakt and any streaming services you looked up, so Tonight can show what's coming out.
- People you follow: the people you follow, with the TV shows in their credits from TVmaze, so the app can point out new ones.
- Your ratings, lists and notes: the 1–10 ratings you give shows, episodes and movies (including in Quick Rate), your custom lists with the optional 1–10 score you give each title in a list, and (Showpage Pro) your private notes on episodes and movies. Titles you mark "Not Seen" in Quick Rate and each list's sort order are kept on this device only.
- Recent searches: the words you searched for.
- Viewed shows: the show pages you opened. This powers "Recently viewed".
- Cached show and movie data: copies of recent TVmaze, Trakt, TheTVDB and Movie of the Night replies (text) in the app's cache folder, so pages load faster and still open when you're offline. The app fetches fresh copies after 1 hour to 7 days, and your device can clear this folder whenever it needs space.
- Cached pictures: show and movie posters, episode stills, photos and backgrounds from TVmaze, Trakt and TheTVDB, and streaming service logos from Movie of the Night, downloaded once and kept in the app's cache folder (up to about 200 MB, oldest removed first) so they show offline. They stay on your device: never uploaded, shared, synced or backed up, and your device can clear them whenever it needs space.
None of this is sent to us. We don't run a server for the app and we can't see it.
iCloud sync: with Settings ▸ Sync with iCloud on (the default), the items above except the caches, plus a few settings (appearance, start tab, sort and layout choices), are kept in sync across your iPhone, iPad and Mac through your own iCloud account (your private iCloud database, under Apple's iCloud terms). That includes your ratings, your custom lists and the scores you give titles in them, which sync through the private CloudKit database of your own iCloud account. They go from your device to your iCloud and back to your other devices; we have no access to them and no server in between. Turn the switch off to keep everything on this device only. If you aren't signed in to iCloud, nothing syncs. You can remove recent searches, followed people, tracked shows and movies (with their watch history) in the app at any time, and deleting the app deletes everything it saved.
Export: Settings ▸ My Shows ▸ Export creates a JSON file of your tracked shows and watched episodes. It's saved only where you choose (for example Files or a folder on your Mac); the app doesn't upload it.
Import from TV Time: if you pick your own TV Time data export in Settings, Showpage reads it on your device and adds the shows, watched episodes (with dates) and your ratings to My Shows. The export file isn't copied, kept or uploaded, and the app doesn't sign in to TV Time. To match shows, it looks up their public TVmaze, TVDB or IMDb ids or titles on TVmaze, nothing about you.
New-episode alerts
Showpage Pro can remind you when a tracked show has a new episode. Alerts are off until you turn them on in Settings, which is the only time the app asks for notification permission. They are local notifications, scheduled on your device from the TVmaze air dates the app already has. No push service, no device token and nothing about your shows is sent anywhere.
Where-to-Watch Alerts (Showpage Pro) compare where your Watchlist and My Shows titles stream with the streaming services you pick in Settings ▸ My Streaming Services. The comparison and your list of services stay on your device; the only requests are the Movie of the Night lookups described below. They are local notifications too.
Calendar sync and stats
With Showpage Pro you can turn on Settings ▸ My Shows ▸ Add Episodes to Calendar. Only then does the app ask for calendar access. It creates a calendar called “Showpage” and adds upcoming episodes of your shows (and Watchlist movies coming out) to it, from dates already on your device. It reads and changes only the events in that calendar, never your other calendars. Your calendar app syncs it like any other calendar on your device; nothing is sent to us. Turning the switch off removes the Showpage calendar.
Stats and Year in Review are worked out on your device from your shows and movies. The Year in Review card is shared only if you tap Share and choose where it goes.
On-device AI
Some Showpage Pro features use Apple Intelligence, which runs entirely on your device. Your shows and searches are not sent to us or to any AI service, and nothing the AI produces is uploaded. On devices without Apple Intelligence, these features are simply hidden.
Trakt (optional)
If you use Trakt, you can connect it in Settings ▸ Trakt to keep your watched episodes, watchlist and ratings in sync. It's off unless you connect it, and you choose which of those three to sync. You sign in on Trakt's own page; Showpage never sees your Trakt password. The app then talks to Trakt directly from your device, with your own sign-in, and sends only what you turned on: watched episodes (which show, season and episode, and when), watchlist adds and removes, and your ratings. Episodes you skip are never sent. Nothing goes to us. Your Trakt sign-in is kept in your device's Keychain, only on that device. Trakt's handling of your account is covered by Trakt's privacy policy. Settings ▸ Trakt ▸ Sign out & disconnect revokes the app's access and removes the sign-in from your device; your shows in Showpage stay as they are.
Taste match (Showpage Pro, Trakt connected): at most once a day (when you open Discover or Settings ▸ Trakt), Showpage reads the public ratings of the people you're friends with or follow on Trakt (up to 20 people), with your own Trakt sign-in, to work out how closely their taste matches yours and which titles they loved. Their ratings are kept only on your device for 24 hours, are never uploaded or synced, and are deleted when you disconnect Trakt. Nothing is written to Trakt for this: no follows, no comments and no changes to anyone's account.
Where the app connects
- TVmaze (api.tvmaze.com and static.tvmaze.com). All show, episode, cast and schedule information and all pictures come from TVmaze's public service. When you search or open a page, your device asks TVmaze directly. TVmaze receives what any website receives: your IP address, the request (for example, the show you searched for or opened) and an app identifier such as "Showpage-iOS". No name, email, account or device ID is sent. TVmaze's handling of that is covered by TVmaze's own policies. Pictures come straight from TVmaze and are only cached on your device (see above).
- Trakt (api.trakt.tv). Movie information, cast and crew, people's movie credits and the Discover lists (Trending, Popular, Most Watched and Coming Soon shows and movies) come from Trakt. When you search or open a movie or person, your device asks Trakt directly with the app's identifier (not your Trakt account): Trakt receives your IP address, the request (for example, the movie you searched for) and an app identifier. No name, email, account or device ID is sent. See Trakt's privacy policy. Connecting your own Trakt account for sync (auth.trakt.tv) is separate and optional (see above).
- TheTVDB (api4.thetvdb.com). Movie posters, backgrounds and some details. Your device asks TheTVDB directly when you open a movie: it receives your IP address, the movie asked for and the app's key. Nothing about you is sent. See thetvdb.com.
- Movie of the Night, through its Streaming Availability API (api.movieofthenight.com). Where to watch: when you tap to check where a movie or show is streaming, automatically when you open the page of a title you follow (in My Shows or My Movies), and, if you turn on Where-to-Watch Alerts (Showpage Pro), a few times a month in the background for titles on your Watchlist or in My Shows. Your device sends that title's public IMDb id and your region (for example "us"), plus the app's key. Nothing about you is sent. The answer is kept on your device for a week, and streaming service logos come from Movie of the Night's image server (media.movieofthenight.com). Streaming availability metadata and images are provided by Streaming Availability API by Movie of the Night.
- Apple, for subscriptions (see below) and, if sync is on, your own iCloud (see above).
The Apple TV app uses the same services listed above (with the app's identifier or key only, nothing about you) and your own iCloud. The Apple Watch app connects to nothing but your own iCloud and Apple's subscription check.
That's the full list. The app contains no analytics, crash-reporting or advertising code, and no third-party SDKs.
If you tap a link (for example a show's official site, TVmaze, or this page), it opens in your browser, and that website's own privacy policy applies.
Subscriptions
Showpage Pro ($2.99 a month or $19.99 a year, with a one-week free trial, or Lifetime Pro for $39.99 once) is sold through Apple's App Store. Apple handles the payment. We never see your name, card number or Apple ID. The app only checks with Apple whether your subscription or Lifetime Pro purchase is active, so it can unlock Pro features. Apple's privacy policy covers your purchase: apple.com/legal/privacy.
No account, no tracking, no ads
- There is no Showpage sign-up or login. (Connecting Trakt is optional and signs you in to Trakt, not to us.)
- We don't track you across apps or websites, and we don't use advertising identifiers.
- We don't show ads.
- We don't sell, rent or share personal data, because we don't collect it.
Children
Showpage is a general-audience TV guide and isn't aimed at children under 13. We don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children, because the app doesn't collect personal information at all.
Your choices
Because your data lives only on your devices and your own iCloud, you're in control: remove shows, movies or searches in the app, or delete the app to remove everything. If you have a question about your data, email us and we'll answer.
Changes to this policy
If the app ever starts handling data differently, we'll update this page and the date at the top before that version of the app is released.
